Xbox One and Playstation 4 - The Dawn of Nuclear Console War

Image
This Autumn both the next generation of Xbox and Playstation will launch in most countries. Though there has always been a ‘console war’ between Xbox and Playstation and a huge amount of fanboyism to either party, this will be nothing compared to what will begin at the start of this year. Looking back at the current gen and by this I mean Xbox 360, PS3 and Nintendo Wii. The 360 launched almost an entire year ahead of the PS3 and Wii which both launched within days of each other (in the UK). The Xbox had that extra year advantage, a much cheaper price tag and no other innovative and entirely new and cheap console to throw a spanner in the works like the Wii did to the PS3 launch. This is entirely different to what is to come this Autumn. The Xbox One and PS4 will launch, if the rumours are true, within weeks of each other and the Wii-U, which many class as a current gen console, is struggling to make a place in people’s homes and doesn’t seem likely to affect these gaming giant

SIMCITY - REVIEW

Image
Being excited about the new revamp of Simcity having not played a Simcity game since ‘2000’, I preordered the game months before the release date and even bought the British city set (being the anglophile that I am), despite it costing £8, a ridiculous amount of money for just a few extra details. So that along with the digital version set me back ~£53 and am I happy with this bug purchase? No. Paying that much for a game with an awful launch which masks underneath what is a seriously damaged game I can’t help but feel bad for those who put down the huge sum of £65 for the Digital Deluxe version - ouch. It still baffles me how we aren’t allowed refunds for digital games as anyone could throw out any old rubbish, much like this, and just reap the rewards. I could make a long review about the troubled launch and the reason why I don’t like the ‘always online’ DRM but I’m going to assume that most people know about this (it was even covered on BBC News), and don’t want to badger o

STAR WARS PINBALL : BOBA FETT - REVIEW

Image
I don't know anything about pinball, nothing - not a damn thing except that it involves pinging balls around a theme based boards, bazillions of points and a ton of wasted money. Zen Studios, creators of Zen Pinball, the game in which you can buy one of the three Star Wars pinball games on, have captured these ‘old school’ elements perfectly - without the endless theft of money. £1.50 is a fair deal for a game that captures the best of Star Wars and puts it all into a vibrant and active pinball machine. Boba Fett will at times move around the game board, meet and have a chat with Darth Vader and at times, being the gentleman that he is, save your ball from escaped via his grappling hook. Despite only seeing these few animations, the look, sound and movement of Boba Fett is executed and resembles one of the greatest Star Wars characters brilliantly. I’m no Pinball wizard and not even the a huge Star Wars fan but this doesn’t stop me from picking this up and having another go at be

DEATH TANK ZWEI | THE HIDDEN CLASSIC & FORGOTTEN REMAKE

Image
Death Tank on Xbox Live Arcade was released in February 2009 by Snowblind Studios and is a remake of one of my favourite games ever created. Despite the Sega Saturn being about as popular as a Tesco beef burger and selling a fraction compared to the Playstation - it’s rival at the time, it had some brilliant games exclusive to the system. One of these was so exclusive it was even hidden inside a game as an unlockable. Death Tank Zwei came hidden inside Duke Nukem 3D (wait, it gets stranger), and the only way to unlock it was to either have another save game from another Lobotomy game i.e. Quake or Exhumed (or PowerSlave as it was named outside Europe) or shoot every urinal in the game. Once you had achieved this might feat, you then could select Death Tank from the main menu. I have to add, PowerSlave (aka. Exhumed) also had the original Death Tank locked inside though I am unable to find any information or pictures of what this differs from Death Tank Zwei. For my friends and I, D

PLAYSTATION 4 Q&A - MADE SIMPLE

Image
On 20th February Sony came and went with a two hour long introduction to the PS4. There was a lot to take in and a lot of questions were left on peoples minds, so, I have come up with the answers for what I think are some questions on peoples’ minds. They showed an image about a load of technical hardware inside the PS4, what the UMD did all that mean? I think that Sony wanted to get this off their chest straight away as the PS3 was quite difficult to develop for. Generally the PS4 runs on PC standard hardware and the x86 (x86-64) which is a 64bit processor and similar to what all Windows PC use is an example of this. In the past, consoles have been 32bit and have been very different to PCs but with this similar hardware architecture it will not only make it easier to develop on the PS4 but hopefully some ports from PS4 to PC will be improved greatly.  I saw 2 people, one wearing a PS t-shirt and some other guy with a Gaikai t-shirt, who are they and what does Gaikai even mean
